Sticky Counter Intelligence
Breakfast will never be the same...
Matthew walked into the kitchen in nothing but flannel sleep-pants, the fabric clinging to him. Nikki stood barefoot at the stove, his ancient concert tee skimming the tops of her thighs, steam curling around her like indecent lace. The waffle iron snapped shut with a hiss.
“You surviving, menace?” he asked, voice rough.
She glanced over her shoulder, her chestnut eyes still dark. “Barely. I keep remembering the fountain and losing my balance.” She mimed the impossible leap she’d made, T-shirt riding higher as she stretched. Matthew’s pulse spiked.
The waffle iron chimed. Nikki slipped the circle onto a plate and, instead of drizzling, turned the maple-syrup bottle upside-down. A thick amber ribbon pooled in the centre, then overflowed, crawling toward the edges like slow honey.
“Bit generous,” he murmured.
“I’m compensating for your lack of subtlety.” She licked a bead of syrup off the bottle’s lip, tongue lingering. “Now tell me: was the midnight duet worth the bruised ego?”
“That busker actually tipped us.” He leaned in, stealing the bottle. “Call it hazard pay.”
He poured a glistening spiral over her wrist, the heat of her skin warming the syrup. She gasped— sharp, delighted. “You’re wasting sugar.”
“I am proving a point.” He bent, lips closing over the sticky trail. Her breath caught as he traced the swirl to her inner elbow, sucking the sweetness clean.
The second waffle sizzled. Nikki turned, and smeared syrup across his collarbone in a hasty X. “Your turn.”
Matthew caught the edge of the counter with one hand, the other tugging her closer by the hem of the tee. She straddled his thigh, syrup-slick fingers drawing a slow line down his chest. His head tipped back when she followed that path with her mouth, maple and heat mingling.
Nikki planted herself on the cold marble, knees parted just enough to invite Matthew in. His flannel sleep-pants brushed her calves as he stepped between them, the scent of fresh waffles curling around their heat like a lazy witness.
The vintage concert tee was still on… barely. Maple syrup glistened across her collarbone, a glossy trail he’d poured in an unsteady hand. She’d caught his wrist, teasing, “Could have aimed lower,” and he’d murmured, “Saving dessert for last.”
Now he traced that amber ribbon with the flat of his tongue. The syrup warmed against her skin, running in fine threads toward the hollow of her throat. She tilted her head back, offering more, feeling the shirt’s hem slide higher on her thighs.
“Better than last night’s fountain?” she asked, breath catching.
He sealed his mouth to the pulse at her neck, tasting sugar and adrenaline. “Let’s call it an encore.” His voice vibrated through her, turning the thin cotton into something necessary.
She hooked a finger into the waistband of his pants and tugged until fabric met marble. “Encores need audience participation.”
He grabbed the syrup bottle again, lifted her left thigh, and drizzled a languid curve from knee to mid-thigh. The amber line beaded, then slipped as she shivered from the touch.
Matthew’s palms smoothed upward, thumbs trailing just beside the sticky path. He kissed where syrup met skin, then licked, slow savour, until the taste turned faint and her breathing turned quick. Her fingers tangled in his damp hair, guiding him higher, craving that heat everywhere at once.
He pulled back just enough to look at her… glossy lips, cheeks flushed. “You’re art,” he said, voice half-ragged.
“Then sign your masterpiece.” She lifted the shirt off to expose the gentle swell beneath.
Maple flowed in his shaky grip, sketching a small heart just under her sternum. Before the syrup could drip, he pressed his mouth over the mark, sealing it. She gasped, thighs tightening around his hips, heels locking behind him.
Their bodies moved without thought… her hips arching into his, his hands braced on the counter to cage her in. The cool marble, the sticky sweetness melting between them… every contrast sharpened the next rush of contact.
Nikki slid a hand beneath his shirt, fingers skating across his back. She felt the muscles ripple as he lifted her slightly, adjusting, bringing their centres level. Cloth, skin, syrup… nothing separate, everything slick with possibility.
“Tell me what you want,” he whispered against her ear, syrup-wet lips brushing sensitive skin.
“You,” she breathed, “all of you, mess and maple included.”
He answered by rocking into her, slow and deliberate, letting every inch register. She clutched his shoulders, nails biting just enough to draw a hiss that stoked her need.
Their mouths met… open, and tasting of sugar. Each kiss grew deeper until words blurred, replaced by breath and small, helpless sounds neither had ever rehearsed.
Nikki’s head tipped back against a cupboard door; Matthew followed the arch, fitting his mouth to her exposed throat. She felt syrup and sweat and his heartbeat racing beneath her palms. The waffle iron clicked again somewhere behind him, but neither spared it a glance. All that mattered was the rhythm building between them… slow, relentless, certain.
She lifted her hips, mouth at his ear. “Don’t stop...”
“Not planning to.” His reply vibrated through her chest as he shifted, finding that perfect angle, every roll of his hips a commitment he fully intended to keep.
And there, on the kitchen counter, amid steam and syrup and reckless affection, they let the morning unravel into sweetness and heat and the taste of each other on each other’s lips.
