The Clearing
They lost the trail just after dusk, where the pines grew thick and the air smelled of moss and warm resin. Jenna laughed and tugged Ethan’s hand deeper into the trees. No map, no campsite, only the hush of the forest and a shared pulse beating somewhere between their ribs.
She wore a thin cotton tank that had already surrendered one strap to the brambles, and every step made the loose fabric bring her taut peaks to attention. Ethan’s gaze followed the motion like a tide charting the moon. By the time they reached a clearing… a meadow swallowed in long grass and wildflowers, he was done pretending they weren’t both thinking the same dirty thought.
Jenna spun once, a slow, sensual twirl, arms lifted. “No one out here but the owls,” she whispered, voice catching on the thrill of it. She tugged the remaining strap off her shoulder and let the shirt drop. The night air kissed her skin; gooseflesh rose everywhere. Ethan’s breath slid out in a rough exhale.
He stepped forward, boots crunching soft stalks. His palms found her waist, fingers pushing deep, then drifted lower. Jenna arched against him, pressing the swell of her breasts to his chest, feeling his heartbeat pick up… hungry, matching hers.
The kiss started slow. Languid, and tasting of camp-smoked bourbon mixed with pine sap… but it sharpened fast. Ethan slid his tongue past her lips, greedy for the wet warmth, and Jenna opened, giving him everything. When she bit his lower lip, he swore softly, hands grabbing at her hair. The sound echoed across the meadow like the owls who kept them company.
Buttons yielded under Jenna’s impatient fingers, one after another until Ethan’s shirt hung open. She pushed it off, kissed the hollow at his collarbone, then trailed her tongue down the rigid line of muscle to his navel. He shuddered; the night answered with one lone cricket trill. Her teeth grazed the waistband of his jeans, teasing, and he caught her shoulders, pulling her upright.
“My turn,” he murmured, voice thick.
